What the Uber inspection form is
Before a car can drive on the Uber platform — and periodically after that — it must pass a vehicle inspection. The inspection form is the checklist a mechanic works through: brakes, tires and tread depth, lights, signals, steering, horn, seat belts, windows, and the other safety points, each marked pass or fail, with the vehicle's details and the inspector's sign-off at the end.
Drivers usually download the form from their driver dashboard (requirements differ by city and state — some accept a state inspection instead), take it to a licensed mechanic or inspection station, and upload the completed, signed document back through the app.
Who fills in what
- You (the driver) can complete the header before the appointment: driver name, phone, license plate, VIN, make, model, year, and mileage;
- the mechanic performs the inspection, marks each checklist item, and signs and dates the form — that part cannot be self-completed;
- you again: photograph or save the signed PDF and upload it in the driver app before the deadline.
Typing the header in advance is more useful than it sounds: VINs are 17 characters of easily-misread letters and digits, and a rejected upload over an illegible VIN costs another trip to the garage.
